Sample Pastor Letter
The following is a sample letter that should be
distributed to students in your God and Me class (if they
attend other churches) to notify their pastors about your
program.
Dear
Pastor,
_______________________________ (name of child) has signed
up to participate in a God and Me class at [church name
and denomination] beginning on [date].
Although the God and Me program is the religious emblems
program recognized by [Boy Scouts of America, Camp Fire
USA, Girl Scouts of the USA], it is a program of the
church and requires a signature and final review by the
pastor. Young people who participate in the God and Me
class offered at our church will be required to complete
the final review with their own pastors. The young
person listed above will be contacting you around [date]
when all the requirements have been completed. Please
“interview” the young person, review his or her work, and
sign the Award Application Form.
Young
people who participate in our program are invited to
attend the Award Ceremony at our church on [date].
However, we encourage congregations to recognize their own
members by planning award ceremonies at a worship service
in their own church.
The
God and Me program is a wonderful opportunity for
congregations to nurture young people and their families
and to encourage them to grow in faith together. We see
this program as a special ministry to scouting families,
and we invite you to share in this ministry! We hope that
more and more churches provide opportunities for their
families to participate in the God and Country program.
