The Preamble to the Girl Scout
Constitution states, “We, the members of Girl Scouts of the
United States of America, (are) united by a belief in God….We
believe that the motivating force in Girl Scouting is a
spiritual one.” Religious awards help girls fulfill their
promise “To Serve God”. The purpose of this “To Serve God
Promotion Patch” is to encourage girls and adults to learn about
and promote the religious awards programs.
Requirements: Girls and
adults must:
1. Attend or coordinate a
presentation or information seminar on religious awards (sample
resources and suggestions are available at www.praypub.org).
2. Make a commitment to
fulfill their promise “To Serve God”.
For example:
Girls can commit to earning the religious award of their
faith at an appropriate time, making a presentation on religious
awards to another Troop, helping younger Girl Scouts earn their
religious award, helping to establish a religious awards program
in their local congregation, etc.
Adults can commit to
having 50% of families participate in the religious awards
programs, nominating a worthy adult to be recognized with an
adult religious award, serving as counselor in their local
congregation, etc.
Patch
The To Serve God Promotion Patch
is a four-segment puzzle patch. Only one segment will be offered
in any given year. Participants are encouraged to earn all four
segments over a four-year span. Patches may be pre-ordered
for distribution at the presentation / information seminar. Use

This patch also has 8 to 10 colors per segment and is 100%
embroidered but stands out with its Gold Metallic border.

1. What is
the purpose of the To Serve God Promotion Patch?
The purpose of this patch is
to encourage girls and adults to learn about and promote the
religious awards programs.
2. What is the
difference between this puzzle patch and the religious awards?
The puzzle patch is worn on the
back of the vest or sash (it shows that a girl has learned about
the religious awards). When she completes the religious
award for her faith, that pin or medallion is worn on the front
of the vest or sash.
3. Can both girls
and adults earn this patch?
Yes. Both girls and adults
may earn this patch.
4. Is this patch
for all faiths?
Yes. This patch requires
that you promote the religious awards programs of all faiths. A
person from any religious background may earn this patch.
5. What are the
requirements?
You are required to: 1) attend or
make a presentation on religious awards, and 2) make a
commitment To Serve God.
6. What does it
mean to "make a commitment" To Serve God?
Making a commitment To Serve
God can mean talking to your clergy about earning your religious
award, presenting information to your congregation, helping
younger Girl Scouts learn about religious awards, etc.
7. When can I
order the To Serve God Promotion Patch? Do I have to wait until
after my presentation to order the patches?
You may order patches at any time.
You may pre-order the patches to distribute them at your
presentation.
8. How do I make
a presentation?
There are free resources
available at www.praypub.org/toservegod.htm. These resources include scripts
and a parent handout.
9. Where is it
worn on the uniform?
The To Serve God Promotion
Patch is worn on the back of the vest or sash.
11. If I want to
order patches for my Troop, will I get a price discount?
Yes. Here are the price
breaks:
1-15 patches=$3.00; 16-30
patches=$2.75
31-49 patches=$2.50; 50-99
patches=$2.25
100+patches=$2.00
12. If a Girl Scout
just earned her religious award, does she qualify for this To
Serve God Promotion Patch?
Yes. A Girl Scout who just
recently earned a religious award may receive a To Serve God
Promotion Patch. However, in the following years, in order to
receive the next segment of the To Serve God Promotion Patch,
she will either have to earn another religious award or help
make a presentation on religious awards to another group.
13. Why is this a
four-segment puzzle patch?
The intent of the puzzle
patch is to encourage leaders to make presentations on the
religious awards every year.
14. When will the
next segment become available?
The next segment will become
available in August.
15. I make
presentations at Leader Training Events every year. Can I hand
out patches to the leaders at these trainings?
Yes. The To Serve God
Promotion Patch may be distributed at adult trainings to
encourage leaders to make presentations to their own troops.
16. Is this a GSUSA
program?
No, this is a P.R.A.Y. program
created to encourage members of GSUSA to fulfill their promise
“To Serve God” .
